In the light of the upheavals going on around the world today, I feel led to share on the subject of divine wisdom so we can prioritize it in our lives, and benefit ultimately from it. Let me ask, “Do you want to accomplish great things in life? Do you want to start well and finish strong? Do you want to know how to effectively run the race set before you? Do you want to know how to succeed where others have failed? Do you want to be distinguished in life for good? Do you want to walk in dominion according to God’s plans?
Know that intentionally prioritizing divine wisdom will get you there. “Wisdom is the right application of knowledge. Knowing what to do in any given situation is what puts you on top all the time. Wisdom evolves from the fear of God. Wisdom comes when you spend time in God’s presence to study His word, seek His face in true worship and prayer, and also wilfully being led of the Holy Spirit. Applying the knowledge gained from such meaningful experiences with God empowers you to win in life” (Excerpt from my book, Honey From the Wilderness, p.142). May I add that wisdom also comes through divine impartation (Deut. 34:9), and from life’s experiences.
Walking in, and increasing in divine wisdom, distinguished Jesus on earth during His earthly ministry: “… Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men” (Luke 2:52). Divine wisdom also empowered him to carry out great exploits. Regarding His awesome accomplishments, we read, “And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands!” (Mark 6:2, NKJV); “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works?” (Matthew 13:54b).
God gives wisdom to all who ask of Him. The only requirement is that they ask in faith and not doubt: “For the Lord gives [skillful and godly] wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding … If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides]” (Proverbs 2:6; James 1:5-8, AMP)
From the Bible, we see that the people who specifically asked God for wisdom got it, and consequently reigned in life through it. Let’s begin with King Solomon. The Bible tells us that, At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” … And Solomon said: “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days” (I Kings 3:5-9).
Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego asked for wisdom at a critical time in their lives, and God granted their request, and Daniel declared, “I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to me what we asked of You,
For You have made known to us the king’s demand” (see Daniel 2:19-24 in context). To reign in life, we must prioritize our pursuit of divine wisdom: “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her. She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you” (Proverbs 4:7-9).
